Gilford, New Hampshire, is a charming town located in Belknap County, nestled along the southern shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and the northern slopes of the Belknap Mountain range. Gilford's history dates back to 1778 when it was settled as part of Gilmanton and known as Gunstock Parish. It became an independent town in 1812, named after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, a Revolutionary War battle in North Carolina. Over the years, Gilford evolved from an agricultural community to a destination for tourism and outdoor activities. The advent of the Lake Shore Railroad in the 19th century brought summer tourists, and the town became a hub for skiing enthusiasts in the 20th century.

Today, Gilford offers a blend of historical charm and modern amenities. Residents and visitors enjoy hiking in Belknap Mountain State Forest, skiing at Gunstock Mountain, and relaxing by the lake.
